Chapter 1: The Importance Of A Successful Mindset
Have you ever wanted something so badly but you couldn’t have it? Do you often feel like it was impossible to achieve your goals no matter how hard you try? Don’t doubt yourself yet. Failing to achieve your goals does not mean you are incapable of achieving them. Oftentimes, the problem lies in not having a successful mindset to get you through the obstacles in achieving your goals.
Some people underestimate the importance of having a proper mindset. These people think that having a proper mindset is almost a given once you convince yourself that you want to achieve a goal. Do not fall into the same trap! Having a proper mindset is as much work as planning or organizing.
Below are some thoughts on the importance of having a proper mindset:
- Mindset controls behavior and behavior produces results
What and how you think is very important in producing certain behaviors. This has long been supported by the principles of cognitive-behavior therapy. Under the cognitive-behavior therapy, people’s thoughts and emotions are not always determined by the situation that they are in, but by their appreciation of the situation.
Based on this premise, a person would act in a certain way as guided by his mindset. Therefore, if he has a successful mindset he would have no trouble engaging in successful behavior.
- It gives you a sense of control over your actions
Hopelessness comes from the thought that you have no control over your life. It makes you drift in a stagnation and it makes you lose all sense of direction.
With the proper mindset, you’ll be able to take control of your life by taking control of how you think and appreciate the things around you. Remember that the things happening around you are out of your control and that’s ok. If you let these things dictate how you are going to live your life, you’ll certainly feel hopeless. But by having the proper outlook in life, you’ll find that you are ahead of what’s happening around you.
These things don’t control you – you do.
- It helps you deal with setbacks
You may not like setbacks along the way, but it doesn’t mean you won’t have them. In fact, it is very likely that you would have them in your journey. Note that not having setbacks is not what matters; it is the way that you take them that does.
If you have a successful mindset, these setbacks won’t bother you at all. The psychology of success would propel you forward regardless of delays and failures. With a positive outlook, you, unlike others, would see setbacks as an opportunity to learn and improve.
- It helps you learn new skills
The human brain never stops developing. In fact, it is a basic principle in neuroplasticity that the some aspects of the brain can change regardless of age. Changing and perfecting your mindset is one of the best things that you can do for yourself. By having a new and clearer mindset, you’d be giving yourself a chance to learn something. Don’t accept things as they are handed out to you. Having the proper mindset allows you to embrace change gracefully as it comes to you. With it, change can never divert you from your goals.
- The proper mindset is not a given
Most people think that having the right mindset is an easy task. After all, who needs to make an effort just to control his own mind?
This is where people usually fail. Thinking that you want something done is the easy part; having a strong determination to do it is not. Just because you want things to happen does not mean that you have the proper mindset to get it done.
